PEOPLE IN FRONT OF A FAX MACHINE
They stand there.
They don't always know what to do with their hands.
Occasionally they make joke-like remarks which
They follow with sounds resembling laughter.
They watch the paper as it emerges.
They watch the paper as it goes in.
If you have a personal item to transmit
Their presence is felt at worst as an affront
At best as an inevitable delay.
Sometimes they think of themselves
As people next to the water cooler.
Do not cause them to think about death;
It is always uppermost on their minds.
They also may hear the faint melodies of the machines.
