THE IMAGINATION OBSERVED

Out in the street, an adult
Makes a straight line by moving
Quickly, and the same goes
For the street; it blocks out
Most of what it notices.

The intensest glance
Comes from nowhere. It favors
Itself. The one who bows
Under the weight of it cannot
Dream how fragile the struts are
Until they've snapped, and then
There it is, night after night.
