CLEARING THE DECKS

Preset dolly shot
As the manager fakes his own dream
Come back from the city parade
And volunteer for the textbook drive

Dress up as a clipboard at the tryouts
Nodding as the rain blows in
Tomorrow's roses (just how do they
Shape up for the winter?)

The Christmas donations
Left under a rock, a pillow, a rug
After the punch-card blood test
It's time to get neighborly

And change to a hospital less
Cracked down the middle by evergreens
We say we want to be done for the month
But that's not why we go two days straight
