Poetry plays along with all of these important subjects
That occupy us so much as we come into our full powers.
The chupacabra, the body-without-organs, controlling
The means of production and distribution, states' rights,
Realpolitik, containment, mutually assured destruction,
Parataxis, righteousness, energy policy, the environment.
How could anybody deny that, like public discourse,
Poetry addresses matters of the utmost importance
With the intention of keeping us alert, helping us survive.
