ST GEORGE SUNSHINE HABIT
How do you understand testing?
Quantum baby, there and not-there,
Rejecting and not going away,
How will you ever be the center of the universe
When you keep falling into your orbit habit?
Questions and more questions.
The proper emphasis, is there such a thing?
Sunlight covers the goals and their nets,
It tans the goalie’s face (my face).
Walking up to the monument
Looking closely at it
And walking away.
Women pass behind the monument;
Looking at them
Walking away.
The sun soaks into the black rock –
Hot on the back of my hand.
The smell of charcoal and pretzels.
Stray dogs don’t dishonor it;
Neither do the poor.
Buses go right past it.
This isn’t a big monument town,
Not that it’s not sublime
In a separate self-importance.
The crater, for example,
The open grave
Hollows everyone out
Gives you a crunch in the gut.
Plane trees in May are sacred light dots.
