GHOSTS, IN THE PLURAL
Everybody says every day
And every night but
Every night would be a good
Way to get into the habit
Everybody says a fancy car
A mansion and the world
But a favorite place, work,
And a grapefruit, alas
Everybody says angry prayers
To the unknown touch but
What we call ghosts are
Echoes and guilty feelings
I myself am everybody
The village and the explainer
Having forgotten how to learn
Without learning how to forget
And that sentiment isn't real
Though I can speak it
It's a colorless green idea
Like the water off St Croix
