POEMS TO YOUR BOYFRIENDS

Why not write poems to your boyfriends.
And yet, they seldom
Speak of their need for an exalted attention
Spiked with silly comments
To demonstrate and affirm a private bond,
Perhaps we're fine without,
Maybe the embarrassment saying what you feel
Brings, and with it the fear
Of indifference... maybe it's better not
To risk speaking directly.
And yet the cheapest metaphor around for love's
A baby shooting an arrow.
